PEACE Punta de Mita is delighted to announce the return of Gordon Ritchie to its board of directors. Ritchie, who divides his time between Calgary and Punta Mita, previously chaired the board’s finance committee. He strongly supports PEACE’S vision and priorities, especially its focus on continuously elevating the standard of education in the greater Punta de Mita area with best-in-class nonprofit governance and best-in-class financial controls and reporting.
“I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing the most recent PEACE Punta de Mita audit report, balance sheet, and current governance documents. I’m delighted with the financial stability that PEACE and its leadership have achieved. What remains, in my opinion, is to focus on fundraising and the excellence of our programs while not overlapping the services and programs being delivered by other foundations operating in the area,” Ritchie said of his return to the PEACE board.
Ritchie brings considerable experience to the board with 37 years at RBC Capital Markets, serving in senior leadership positions in London (England), New York, and Calgary. Since retirement, he has chaired several boards, including Obsidian Energy and Pipestone Energy (prior to its sale to Strathcona Resources). He was also lead independent director of Kinder Morgan Canada (prior to it selling the TransMountain Pipeline to the Government of Canada).
His wide-ranging interest in and service to nonprofits includes United Way of Calgary and Area, Banff Center for the Arts, Hull Child and Family Services, TransCanada Trail, Trout Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Canada Company. He served for 10 years on the Winsport Board and chaired its investment committee. He also chaired the University of Calgary Board and its investment committee for more than a decade.
“Retirement has been, and still is, a busy time for me to give back—this time for future generations in the Punta de Mita area,” Ritchie said.
